Tysons Corner and Friends
Pull Together For The Special Olympics
|
Since D.C., Tysons, and Rockville are all neighbors they decided to "pull together" and get better acquainted. What better way than to benefit the Special Olympics and do a Plane Pull for a good cause? That's right, pull a 150,000 lb., FedEx Cargo Plane!! On September 8th, Special Olympics held its 8th Annual, Dulles Day Plane Pull. In a nut shell, teams of 20 people competed against each other for prizes in different categories to include the farthest, the fastest, etc. In order for "Team GB" to be able to compete in the event, we needed to raise money! So why not go for the gold and shoot to be a Premier Sponsor at $8,500? Between the three stores, we put a game plan together on paper and decided to raise $2,850 from each location. Over a three month period, we did it! We raised money through tapping parties, selling "Stars" for Special Olympics, competing in bowl-a-thons, and much more!
Our plane pulling team consisted of each of the GM's along with 5 servers from each

of our stores chosen on the basis of their teamwork skills, participation and through sales goals such as Passports. We were also chosen by their Shopper Report scores and by their good standings with the company.
Pull team weight: 3480
Pull time: 10.85 seconds
Great job D.C., Tysons, and Rockville! Can't wait for you to reach your 2008 goal of $25k!

Santa Visits Gordon Biersch Tempe
|
Gordon Biersch Tempe hosted its 2nd Annual Thomas J. Pappas School Christmas Party on Monday, December 17, 2007. Thomas J. Pappas is a school for underprivileged children that will unfortunately be closing at the end of this school year. Fortunately, these children were able to enjoy a pizza party at the restaurant, as well as each receiving a wrapped gift that they selected from a table of gifts. Not only was each child blessed this day, but so were the staff who worked this event. Giving and making a difference in the community is what “it” is all about!

Kickball in Miami
|
Who says Kickball is only fun for second graders? Our very own GB Miami team doesn't think so!! Not only do they have fun playing kickball as a team, but they raise money for local charities doing so!! This year marks the second season for the GB Brew Ballers. Their first season was rather productive, as they finished the season 5-4 and had a three way tie for 3rd place going into the playoffs. Unfortunately, they lost both games in the double elimination round, and watched the two last place teams square off for the championship trophy! That's okay though because during the season the league raised funds in excess of $1,000 to benefit local charity's, including Autism Research and Children Cancer treatment organizations in Southern Florida.
Their second season began Sunday, March 16th and the Miami team has high hopes of repeating at least an above .500 season.
|
Gordon Biersch has also been an "after bar" for other leagues in the Miami area. The Coastal division has had their second season at GB, where Thursday nights the bar area fills up with community Kickballers. A rainbow of uniforms fill up the lounge and patio area for several hours, as the players reminisce over the nights game and partake in the fine hand crafted lagers and menu delights. |
